The dealer returned my smokin', oil leaking NH 1925 yesterday. They supposedly ran it on the dyno for 3 hours and said it's fixed. They ran a full tank of gas and blakened the oil that I had just changed a couple of weeks ago. Of course they didn't refill the tank or change the oil before they brought it back. No more smoke or oily exhaust they say and that it should not happen again. Told me it had to be broke in properly. I find it hard to believe that the first 50 hours of operation didn't break it in. I haven't had a chance to run it long or hard enough to see if the problem still exists, but I bet it shows up again after the warranty expires. I've contacted NH to see what they have to say about this problem, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I want to thank all of you that have replied to my postings and the webmaster for maintaining this very informative site.

Kevin,This is another instance of "penny wise & dollar foolish". Customer Service!, Customer Service!. Amazing how savinga couple bucks in fuel, will probably cost them future business from either yourself or your friends/neighbors. The dealer didn't thinktwice about it, and your bothered/annoyed enough to write a post. As far as the oil/smoke situation, I don't know what to say. To bethe devils advocate, I have been told that the 5.9L ISB in my Dodge Cummins wouldn't be broke in till about 30-40K miles, because I don't tow anything for work the engine hard. One that tows or is worked hard can be broke in around 12-15k miles. So looking at thoses numbers, I guess the 50 hour break-in period is an average number for the average guy. Putting it on the Dyno with definitely work the motor. Having it on for 3 hours, I hope they at least told you what "your" engine is putting out. ....

Mls - When it comes to this dealer, Customer Service is non-existent. You dont realize how important it is until you need it. It took me 3 months dealing with an incompetent salesman to get them to order and install a diff lock and swinging drawbar on the tractor. The diff lock was supposed to be on the tractor when it was first delivered. I lost all my patient and went to the owner and they finally installed the diff lock and drawbar. Thats not the worse part. They actually put the diff lock on the right side of the tractor, which is a hydro. Their excuse was they were short handed and had an ATV mechanic install it. I finally went to the owner and needless to say he took care of the diff lock and fired the salesman. Why I went back after that I'll never know. Stupidity I guess or mainly because they are the only dealer close by. When it comes to breaking a tractor in, I have no knowledge or experience. I did what the manual said and followed the advice of others on this board. Did 3 hours on the Dyno fix it? Thats a question that is yet to be answered. I was so disgusted that I forgot to get a Service Report from them. I;m going back for the third time this week to obtain a copy of this report for my records, so if and when this happens again and the dealer loses his copy, at least I'll have mine. He did say that they got the tractor up to 31 PTO HP. I believe the 1925 is rated at 27.6 PTO HP? I hope its fixed, but from what I've been hearing about these models, I'm not to sure. What else can I do? ....

Wow, I guess all the postings about finding a good dealer are right. When I wanted a swinging drawbar, my dealer took one off another tractor and put it right on mine. Took them three days to order and install cruise control. You have my sympathy. ....

Kevin,Man, do I feel bad for you. I can't imagine spending that kind of money on a compact, then to have this happen. I know this isn't a fair statement or assessment, but I have yet to meet a good (nice) NH/Ford dealer, therefore not even on our list of choices when we looked for a compact. That decision had nothing to do with reliability or quality of the unit, but rather based purely on Customer Service. As far as the dyno numbers, its important to rememer that each dyno will read slightly different. I'm not even sure if its a requirementto have them calibrated. I don't know how conservatively they are rated. I don't know your financial situation, but I can tell you that I would have a "For Sale" sign on mine if I went through what you said. That is, unless no other dealership exists or they aren't any better. Good luck in the future |:o) ....

Kevin, Keep us all posted on if your boomer is, in fact, fixed. If it is; fine. If not let as many people on this board and the virtual farm show board know that it is not fixed. We will all know what tractor not to buy in the future. If it's not fixed hopefullt you'll get a new TC. ....

I have worked the tractor for 6 hours since the dealer said it was fixed. After only 2 hours of operation there is oil spitting from the exhaust again and some smoke. The inside of the exhaust pipe is wet and oily again. I have a meeting scheduled on Monday with the owner of the dealership. I have called and sent letters to NH, but as of yet no reply. I have a feeling that the next step is tearing down and rebuilding the engine since 3 hrs on Dyno didn't do it. I cant afford for the tractor do be down that long. I feel NH should replace it with a TC33D. I will let everyone know what happens. ....

I will say that this problem is not the fault of the dealer, and it doesn't result from poor service. The problem comes from a fault in theengine design on the old model Boomers. Those of you that followed the story of my 1725 here and on Machinery Forum will remember that the smoky exhaust from the 1725 was makingme sick after working with the tractor for only 15 to 45 minutes. Both NH and the dealer got a rude awakening when I decided thatthe tractor was going out to a materials lab for exhaust and engine analysis, and that if the exhaust was a health risk to me, a lawsuitwould be filed promptly against both NH and dealer. The last straw came when I discovered that the whole end of the exhaust, both inside and back about eight inches on the outside, was wet and dripping oil. At that point (about 55 hours) the engine was also noticeably losing power. The writ was being made out tostart suit when NH and the dealer decided that they would replace my 1725 with a TC29. The replacement was done at no additionalcost to me.I am told by the dealer and NH that I am probably the only person in the world with heavy work experience with both the older andthe newer Boomer models. That said, I can tell you that no one needs to be scared to buy a TC. I also have working experience withKubota and Deere, and I would choose a TC anyday over one of those makes.NH clearly corrected their mistakes when they designed the TC models. The TC was delivered tome at the end of November, and I now have approximately 345 hours on it. This tractor has been severely tested, as I always workmachines to and beyond their capacity. Most of my work is loader work, and I have moved large rocks, hauled full buckets of heavy fill, plowed snow, towed other equipment, shifted a 60 ft. mobile home to a new position, lifted and moved 1000 lb downed cow, hauledmanure, run the bush hog, hauled my trailer with 10,000 or so lbs. of hay bales, and, as posted below, run my hay tedder, and runseveral hundred bales of day through my PTO driven JD 14T baler. I have yet to feel the tractor strain under load. I have yet to find thejob the TC29 can't do. I recommend the TC's without reservation, and for anyone that wants a compact all-around tractor for the smallfarm, the TC29 and TC33 is without a doubt the best tractor on the market today.NH is going to have to come to the realization that customer satisfaction is more important than the temporary loss they may takereplacing these machines. They replaced mine, and due to my happiness with the TC29, they sold five more TC's that I know of. Theloss they took on the replacement was more than evened out - they made a profit off replacing that tractor! If they replace Kevin's,and he is happy enough with the TC to recommend even two people who buy TC's, they make a profit off replacing his tractor. ....
